Uber announced today a new integration between Alexa and Uber Eats that will allow you to track the status of your orders through Amazon’s voice assistant. Amazon claims that the feature will give updates on the status of an Uber Eats order, from the moment it is prepared to the time the Uber driver delivers your food. Alexa can either announce the status of your order or turn on its notification light to let you know.
If you think “Hold on, I thought I’d be able to do that for years?” I can’t really blame you. Uber first announced Alexa support in 2016. Last year, Uber added the ability to order Uber Eats via Siri or Google Assistant. This functionality has existed for some time. You should also note that Alexa’s integration allows you only to track orders. There is no option to order using your voice.
Mark Yoshitake, an Amazon employee, said that “simple ambient experiences” allow customers to spend more time with their family and friends. They don’t have to be distracted checking delivery updates in their mobile apps. Mark Yoshitake adds that customers can “trust Alexa” to alert them when the Uber Eats driver is nearing with their order or to update them in the event of a significant change to the estimated time.
In the US, the Alexa integration can be found now in the Uber Eats App. You will find a Track with Alexa option in the Voice Assistant Settings menu. After checkout, you can enable the updates on the order tracking page.
Mark Yoshitake is the Director and GM of Alexa Skills. He said that simple ambient experiences allow customers to spend more time with their family and friends. They don’t have to be distracted checking delivery updates in their mobile apps. Now, customers can watch their favorite movie while Alexa updates them on the status of their order or if it has changed materially. This is yet another way Alexa makes customers’ lives easier.
In the United States, Echo devices can track Uber Eats orders. Amazon is Uber’s third voice-activated partner, following partnerships with Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri in the past year.
Start by going to the Voice Assistant Settings in the Uber Eats App and turning on “Track with Alexa”. After checkout, tap on Alexa.
