A former member of Frumious bandersnatch in San Francisco’s vibrant psychedelic scene before joining Journey full time; Tickner made an immeasurable mark upon it all!
Frumious Bandersnatch and Jerry Garcia: An Early Musical Journey
Tickner and Ross Valory established what became Journey. As well as performing alongside Jerry Garcia and Merl Sunders live stages to hone their craft and cement their commitment to crafting musical narratives, Tickner also formed what would later become Journey as its foundational members.
Journey and Departure Tickner left Journey after receiving an academic scholarship to Stanford Medical School and to pursue medicine full time. Neal Schon took over guitar duties until Jonathan Cain joined in 1981; Tickner never lost his love of music though and collaborated with Ross Valory in creating The Hive where he continued writing songs.
