ChatGPT has announced its latest integration: payments and shopping service Klarna.
According to the company, it was “one of the first to collaborate with OpenAI to use their protocol for building an integrated Plugin to ChatGPT”. Klarna users can ask for advice, inspiration, and product links through Klarna’s search-and-compare tool. Klarna now offers a personalized shopping experience that includes product recommendations.
This is how it works: After downloading the Klarna plugin from ChatGPT plugin shop, users can then ask ChatGPT questions. You can ask for headphones if you have $150. A selection of products will be available.
You can also ask questions and get product recommendations. The company stated that users can tap on the product link to navigate to Klarna’s product page and use its search and comparison tool to find prices from over 500,000 retailers.
“I’m thrilled about our ChatGPT plugin because it passes my “north star” criteria, which I call my “mom test,” i.e. Sebastian Siemiatkowski (co-founder and CEO at Klarna), stated in a written statement that his mom would understand and be able to benefit from the plugin. It’s simple to use and solves many problems. This creates tremendous value for everyone. Klarna has the unique ability to use the best technology to solve problems and help consumers find new products at every stage of their shopping journey. We’ll keep innovating and bringing these services to our 150 millions customers.”
According to the company, the plugin will be available initially for ChatGPT Plus subscribers in Canada and the U.S., and then will become available in other countries “following safety testing, development, and improvement.”
Klarna announced last month that the U.S. was the largest market, after witnessing a 71% increase in gross merchandise values (GMVs) in the U.S. over 2021. The Klarna Card was also launched in June with a wait list of 1 million people.
This new feature is announced OpenAI’s announcement about the launch of plugins for ChatGPT, and the connection of the chatbot with the internet.
Klarna is one of the many tech giants that are getting into generative AI. This includes Apple and Google.
