Snap and Microsoft have teamed up to bring Snapchat Lenses to Microsoft Teams. There are more than 20 Snapchat Lenses available in the Microsoft Teams app. These Lenses can be placed on your head, on your shoulder or on your face during video chats.
Users of Teams don’t have to download an additional app or add-on. Instead, Microsoft has integrated Snapchat’s AR Lenses directly in the video effects section. These Snapchat Lenses have been made available to Teams by Microsoft using Snap’s Camera Kit SDK.
Microsoft uses Snap’s Camera Kit for Flip Education Platform to add Snapchat Lenses in videos. However, this new Teams feature is only available to Teams for Work users. These Snapchat Lenses will not be available to anyone who is using Teams for Education or personal. The “classic” version will be used instead of the preview client for “New Teams”, which Microsoft launched last month. Microsoft used Snap’s camera kit to integrate Snapchat Lenses in Teams.
Just months after Snap closed down its Camera app, which allowed for similar filters to be applied in Teams and Zoom, Snapchat Lenses were added to Microsoft Teams. Snap Camera was originally launched in 2018. It was initially designed for Twitch streams. However, the rise in video calls caused by pandemics saw Snap’s popularity grow and make viral moments such as a boss becoming a potato during a Microsoft Teams meeting.
Microsoft is also developing animated backgrounds for Teams meetings. In May , a new feature called dynamic backgrounds will be available. This allows users to replace their background with dynamic animations for a more immersive virtual world.
