Ely Reeves Callaway II, also known as Reeves Callaway to the rest of the world, was born in a family that has a long history of success. Ely Callaway Jr. was his father and the founder of Callaway Golf Company. Reeves was attracted to the thrill of the racetrack while his father was making holes in ones. He had dreams of being a racecar driver from an early age. Unfortunately, this did not come true.
Reeves did not let this setback deter him from his passion for cars. He continued to pursue them with passion. As an instructor at Bob Bondurant Racing School, he turned his attention to sharing his passion for racing. The experience ignited in him a passion that led him to create an aftermarket turbocharger for the BMW 3 Series. Car and Driver, an automotive magazine of repute, noticed his bold move, and this was the start of his rise to fame in the auto industry.

Reeves’ unfulfilled racetrack dreams did not discourage him. Callaway Cars was founded by Reeves out of his passion for designing and manufacturing high performance specialty vehicles. Tragic loss of a visionary
Reeves Callaway passed away on a tragically Tuesday, the 11th of July. The automotive industry was stunned by this news. Callaway Cars released a press release stating that he suffered severe injuries after a fall in his Newport Beach home, which led to his premature departure at 75 years old.
