Ice Universe, a Twitter account that is anonymous but has a reputation for accurately leaking information about upcoming smartphones, tweeted the dimensions they claim to be of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5, the newest foldable smartphone.
The thickness of the Z Fold 4 is 14.2mm to 15.8mm. The Z Fold 4’s thickness ranges between 14.2mm and 15.8mm due to the gap at the hinges, as well as the angle the screens are folded. The Fold 5 could be thinner and flatter compared to its predecessor. This is due to the improved hinge that Samsung is said use.
Weight is another improved specification. It is said to be 254g – 9g lighter than Fold 4. Ice Universe previously shared the Fold 5 weight in this month. The Fold 5 is 0.2mm smaller, narrower and thinner than the Fold 4. The Fold 5 is said to have screens the same size as the Fold 4: 6.2″ outer display, and 7.56″ inner screen. These reduced dimensions could indicate that it has slightly smaller screen bezels.
The Z Fold 5 is likely to have a greater thickness than Honor’s Magic VS when it launches in Europe this summer. Honor’s new foldable measures 12.9mm folded. It’s heavier, at 267g. The Magic VS features a 7.9 inch inner screen and a 6.45 inch cover display.
These figures, aside from the improved hinge suggest that Samsung’s flagship folding phone could receive a minor upgrade this year. The Z Flip 5 is the smaller flip phone, which will reportedly have a larger cover display than last year.
Samsung announces its new foldables during the Summer Unpacked event. SamMobile reported that this year’s Summer Launch may take place during the last week in July. This would mean Samsung’s newest foldables will be available within three months.
