There have been few rumors about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, but now we know what to expect. Samsung has announced that it will launch the watch with One UI 5 Watch. This is a new skin for Google’s WearOS 3 platform. In addition to the existing features such as sleep tracking, emergency SOS, and personalized heart rate zones, the update will also include several refinements.
The sleep tracking features of Samsung have been overhauled in the past year. They were lagging behind their competitors. With the upcoming update, Samsung claims that users will see a prominent sleep score and it will be viewable from the wrist. Users who take part in the chronotype based Sleep Coaching feature can also view insights straight from the wrist.A wildly nervous penguin chronotype appears
Samsung has also improved its Sleep Mode. Currently, the mode dims the display, mutes calls and notifications and turns off alerts. A small change will be made to the watch to use an infrared instead of a green LED. This will help to reduce the chance that the light accidentally wakes you up. One UI 5 watch can detect when you are sleeping and turn off connected devices using SmartThings.
The addition of personalized heart rate zones to smartwatches is a major update. This is especially true now that Apple and Samsung are competing with each other for the Garmin crowd by releasing premium smartwatches. Following ten minutes of running the watch will calculate your heart rate zones using your VO2 max and aerobic/anoxic thresholds.
Samsung has a lot of catching up to do. The heart rate zones on the Galaxy Watch are calculated using a standard formula based on age. Like BMI, this formula gives a good ballpark estimate but is not always accurate. It’s unclear if users will have the option to edit the calculation manually. Soon, heart rate zones will be more personalized.
Outdoorsy Galaxy Watch 5 Pro Users might be pleased to know that Samsung has expanded its Route Workout to include walking and running. Previously, the Watch 5 Pro could only provide turn-by-turn instructions for cyclists and hiking. Now users can search a GPX database in the Samsung Health App for route suggestions instead of importing them from another application.
The Samsung Account will determine the user’s age when they set up their Samsung Account. )The fall detection feature will be activated by default for users older than 55 years.
The Pixel Watch has been stealing market share from Samsung’s wearables, and Google is now the second-largest player in the market.
Samsung has said that it will announce more updates in the near future. Samsung Members will allow Galaxy Watch 4 or 5 owners from the US and Korea to sign up for a beta test program later this month.
