California’s Super73 now has more ruggedized Super73 Z, S and R series e-bikes, as well as a new K1D electric bike for children. Parents are thrilled to see their 4- to 8-year-old riding on an electric vehicle that can travel over 16 mph.
The Adventure Series is a new line of ebikes that features a fresh design, suspension, gearbox, seats, tires and lights. It will be available in Super73’s Z (entry level commuter) , S (multipurpose cruiser) and ebikes. The series features both front suspension and fully adjustable rear suspension. S and R models had their battery moved down to the bottom tube. This should make it easier to handle due to a lower center-of-gravity.
The Super73K1D is available now (get it, Sk8er? is an electric balance bike with regenerative braking and throttle aimed at four-to-eight-year-olds. The battery, which is small and interchangeable at 92.8Wh lithium ironphosphate (LFP) or LiFePO4, provides 60 minutes of riding time.
LFP batteries last longer and are safer than traditional lithium-ion batteries that most ebike manufacturers use, such as Super73. LFP is being explored by the company for wider adoption. The K1D is Super73’s first e-bike that uses it. Mike Whitmark, spokesperson for Super73, says that while the engineering team is considering incorporating LFP into future e-bikes, it has not been something they have committed to.
There are three speed modes for the K1D. According to Super73 data, Mode 1 goes up to 7 mph, Mode 2 up to 13 mph and Mode 3 “up to 16+mph.” While the lower modes can be changed easily by the child, “Track Mode” cannot be locked by parents and is meant to only be used on closed courses. This can be done by parents holding the buttons for the right amount of time. Kids will soon figure it out.
